Dan Herz at a Miami Heat Game with his son

Dan Herz was born and raised in Chicago. After obtaining a degree in finance from Indiana University, he was offered a position in commercial banking and relocated to South Florida in 1983. After eight years in banking,  Dan’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to open  his own real estate investment and private lending company, DFH Business Consultants, which he still operates today. In November, 2000 Dan purchased the Ocean Pearl Motel on A1A in Deerfield Beach out of foreclosure and quickly repositioned the property as a pet friendly, clean, economical choice for vacationers and locals alike.

In 2012 Dan was credited with keeping The Deerfield Beach Chamber Of Commerce afloat when he stepped in and lent the Chamber $200,000 when no one else would, which kept the Chamber building from being foreclosed on. Without this assistance the Chamber would not have been in a position to recently sell their building to The City Of Deerfield Beach for $550,000.

Dan permanently moved to Deerfield Beach in 2016 when he purchased and moved into a condominium unit close to the beach.

Dan started to become active in Deerfield Beach politics in 2013 and became a frequent speaker at City Commission meetings. He became very concerned when witnessing many decisions made by the City Manager that were not in the best interests of the citizens. To make matters worse Dan noticed the commissioners were not asking the tough questions that needed to be asked and instead were nothing more than a “rubber stamp” for the City Manager. This is what led Dan to the conclusion that the only way to effect a meaningful change in the way decisions are made currently in Deerfield Beach was to run for the District One Commission seat.

Dan has one child, Alexander, who is 15 years old. Dan currently is Co РPresident of Temple Beth Israel, is on the Board Of Directors of Hispanic Unity Of  Florida and is treasurer of Country Creek Club Homeowners Association located in Davie.
